been honored as a Master Teacher and Healer of the Soul with the
sacred name of Surya Sai Ma Durga Devi, and is fondly referred to as
“Surya Ma.”
She was born into this world with the birth name Devra Lynn Patton and
is part of the Patton family lineage of World War II fame, which
shaped her future as a child with the Patton family tradition of
service to God and Country. Her first name Devra, means divine wisdom
or wise one in the feminine context and she is sometimes called by the
endearment of Devraji that connotes loved one or honored one in the
Eastern cultures.
Her spiritual name is like a string of
magnificent pearls glistening from the radiance of their timeless and
profound meaning. You will hear Surya Ma referred to in many veins. In
formal circles she is also addressed as Dr. West, her married name.
Having trained with the revered indigenous elders and the master
teachers of many faiths, she is a recognized pundit of interfaith
studies and the world’s spiritual philosophies. She is also a leader
in the field of transpersonal psychology that embraces the science of
individualized spirit, the psychology of the soul and the soul’s quest
for self-realization of its true spiritual identity.
Surya Ma began her childhood from the
awakened state and was consecrated at the age of seven by the
Universal Christ to serve as a dynamic catalyst for this time of
planetary transformation. She received illumination in 1967 at the age
of seventeen through direct contact with the Immortal Masters of
Universal Wisdom and has carried forth her mission of integrating the
enlightened state, to live “in the world but not of the world” with
fierce commitment here in the West. She is indeed a Great Light whose
